How to Clear Acne With Natural Remedies

The best thing you can do for your skin is detox, but here are a few tricks to help you along the way.

Baking Soda Skin Exfoliant: This is one of the most effective methods of getting rid of acne there is. All it involves is a damp rag with baking soda liberally applied to it. The rag is used to rub the skin gently for about 5-10 minutes, after which time the skin is rinsed off and towel dried. Must be done regularly for a few weeks.
Egg White Mask: Many people use beaten egg whites as a facial acne mask. The mask is applied to the face for about 15 minutes, then it is washed off and the skin is GENTLY patted dry with a soft cloth. Eggs have potent healing properties (due to the protein contained within) which makes this a great method for healing and clearing away acne. This is by no means an overnight acne cure, so don’t get upset when you find out you have to use this technique for a matter of weeks before the effects begin to show.
The Oatmeal Cover Up: As opposed to cooking it for breakfast, the oatmeal is cooked, allowed to cool, and then it is lathered onto the skin to make an anti-acne facial mask. Allow the mask to sit for about 15-20 minutes and then rinse it away with warm — NOT HOT — water. Gently dry your face with a paper towel or soft piece of cloth.
The Aloe Vera Rub: If you happen to have Aloe Vera plants at your home (or know where to get some), then you’ve already got yourself a super powerful treatment for clearing acne. If you don’t have the plant, well, then a simple aloe vera lotion should suffice. This acne treatment is done simply by rubbing the plant (or the lotion/cream) directly onto the skin.
The “juice” from the Aloe Vera plant helps to reduce the visibility of acne spots and acne scars. More specifically speaking, it helps to heal the skin, to protect it, and and to make it softer and smoother. In addition to actively treating and getting rid of acne breakouts, aloe vera is also an outstanding preventative measure too. There’s a reason that aloe vera is recommended for treating all sorts of skin conditions — it WORKS!
These are some of the great ways of how to cure acne at home. They aren’t the fastest of acne treatment methods, but they do work and they are 100% natural. If you’re on a budget yet still wish to clear acne breakouts without spending lots & lots of money, then it’s recommended you start with these simple remedies!
Important Note: Contrary to what you’ve been told or what you’ve heard, cosmetic cover-ups, which can either be sold over-the-counter or given a fancy name and then prescribed by doctors, are usually NOT the best way to get rid of acne. Such cheap skincare products rarely, if ever, address the true causes of acne build up and acne scarring.
Having said that, If you are going to pay for an acne treatment, just make sure you stick with websites (like the ones recommended below) that actually know what they are talking about and have a proven track-record for delivering results.

Phone Company Gives Something for Nothing

Dear Ann,

I think I can top the person who wrote complaining about the idiocy of the phone company. Talk about garbage in, garbage out!

When AT&T split with Bell, we had three phones in our house. The equipment belonged to Ma Bell and the service belonged to AT&T. After we returned all the phone equipment to Ma Bell, we received a bill for $0.00. A few weeks later, we received a check for $5 and a note thanking us. Several months later, we received another computerized bill for $0.00. We called again, got nowhere, so we sent another check for $0.00. A few weeks later we received another $5 refund with the same thank you.

This went on every three months for two years. Now we are down to once a year and have given up trying to straighten this out. We just cash the $5 and forget about it.

Goodyear

Origin of the Wingfoot

The responsibility for the adoption of the Wingfoot symbol, known today in every civilized country on earth, rests to a great extent with Frank Seiberling, the founder and for many years president of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

In the old Seiberling home in Akron, on a newel post of the stairway there stood a statue of the famous god of mythology known to the ancient Romans as Mercury, and to the Greeks as Hermes.Mercury

Mr. Seiberling’s attention was attracted to the statue, and he felt that the god it portrayed embodied many of the characteristics for which Goodyear products were known.

A meeting to discuss the idea of suitable trademark was held at the Seiberling home in August 1900. Something distinctively Goodyear was needed to distinguish it from other companies.

Among the sketches prepared for the meeting at Mr. Seiberling’s suggestion was one using the winged foot of Mercury.

Everyone present agreed that this should be the symbol for the company, with the Wingfoot to be set in the middle of the word “Goodyear.” The original Wingfoot, however, was much larger in relation to the word “Goodyear” than the one in use today.

Mercury in ancient times was the god of trade and commerce; but it was as a swift messenger for all the gods of mythology that he was best known, and as such he has continued to be known through the centuries.

The idea of speed had much to do with Goodyear’s selection of the symbol, for the wingfooted Mercury was regarded as a fleet herald of good news. But it is as a herald or carrier of good tidings to users of Goodyear products everywhere that the Wingfoot now stands in the minds of the people of the world.     read more..

Saturn Corporation was an automobile manufacturer and marque, established on January 7, 1985 as a subsidiary of General Motors in response to the success of Japanese automobile imports in the United States.

The company marketed itself as a “different kind of car company,” and operated somewhat independently from its parent company for a time, with its own assembly plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, unique models, and a separate retailer network.

Audi

Technology is too Good

Seattle, Washington:

The new U.S. Weather Service radar on Camano Island and atmospheric profiler at Sand Point began to pick up a mysterious 20 mile per hour wind out of the south each night about a month ago, a wind that started about sunset and ended at dawn.

Forecasters finally realized the new instrument is almost too accurate for its own good: It was detecting no wind, but the annual nighttime migration of thousands of birds towards the north, said a meteorologist.

20min walk today is better than an hour walk you keep putting off because you don’t have the time.  One page of your novel is better than a 3000 word session.   Taking your kids to the park for 10 mins is better than not.  So what ever it is you have been putting off until the perfect time. -Stop and do it now.  Or a least do a part of it now.  You’ll feel so much better for it.

Cancer

The Underlying Causes of Cancer

Cancerous cells are always being created in the body. It’s an ongoing process that has gone on for eons. Consequently, there are parts of your immune system are designed to seek out and destroy cancer cells.

Cancer has been around as long as mankind, but only in the second half of the 20th century did the number of cancer cases explode. Contributing to this explosion are the excessive amounts of toxins and pollutants we are exposed to, high stress lifestyles that zap the immune system, poor quality junk food that’s full of pesticides, irradiated and now genetically modified, pathogens, electromagnetic stress, lights, and just about everything that wasn’t here 200 years ago.

All these weaken the immune system, and alter the internal environment in the body to an environment that promotes the growth of cancer.

Cancer is not a mysterious disease that suddenly attacks you out of the blue, something that you can’t do anything about. It has definite causes that you can correct if your body has enough time, and if you take action to change the internal environment to one that creates health, not cancer, while at the same time attacking cancerous cells and tumors by exploiting their weaknesses.

Cancer tumors begin when more cancerous cells are being created than an overworked, depleted immune system can destroy.

Constant exposure to tens of thousands of manmade chemicals from birth onward, chlorinated and fluoridated water, electromagnetic radiation, pesticides and other toxins, leads to the creation of too many free radicals and excessive numbers of cancerous cells.

Alone this would be enough to raise cancer levels, but combined with an immune system weakened by a diet of refined and over processed food, mineral depleted soils, and too much exposure to artificial light at night, the immune system at some point no longer is able to keep cancer in check, and it starts to grow in your body.

DID YOU KNOW?  Research shows that the immune system needs 9 1/2 hours of sleep in total darkness to recharge completely — the authors of the book Lights Outexplain. When was the last time you had this much sleep?

Because of this stress and the overload of toxins, you end up with a malfunctioning immune system, and a body that is not capable of destroying the excessive numbers of cancerous cells that develop. Some, sooner or later, survive and multiply. And then you have cancer. Of course, our diets loaded with sugar and refined carbohydrates don’t help. Refined carbohydrates digest so fast they act like sugar, and cancer cells love sugar. They have about 15 times more receptor cells for capturing sugar than healthy cells.

Overcoming cancer is a process of reversing the conditions that allowed the cancer to develop, and going after and killing cancerous cells.

The exact causes don’t have to be known, though certainly the more varied the approaches taken to correct those conditions, the more likely you are going to hit on what works best in a particular case. What you need to do is to strongly and dramatically interrupt and reverse the cancer-causing conditions in your body so that it becomes healthier, and stops breeding cancer.

The more cancer there is, the more serious the condition, meaning much more has to be done — fast. It may be too late, or it may not. No one knows where that cutoff point is as some people given only a few days to live have pulled through and conquered cancer when they applied these strategies.

What The Medical Industry Won’t Tell You
About Treating Cancer

There was a woman whose daughter was in the advanced stages of brain cancer.  She asked her oncologist if it was ok to give her daughter a superfood called blue green algae. Her doctor told her that it was no problem, that in fact a number of his patients had used that supplement with success in fighting cancer. Naturally she wondered why he didn’t tell her about this product a year before when they came to him.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t tell her about this or any “natural or alternative health therapies” and stay employed.  Insurance regulations would preclude such suggestions.  And he could get into administrative trouble by recommending natural, non-drug treatments for cancer. His advice is controlled by a large medical industry that makes mega money off expensive cancer fighting drugs and treatments.  An industry that doesn’t look favorably on natural supplements or other cancer treatments as they cannot patent them to make high profits.

Fifty years from now, the current conventional cancer treatments used by doctors will on the whole be viewed in the same light that we view the old medical practice of using leeches to cure illnesses. Chemotherapy and other treatments damage cells and tear down and weaken the immune system. But the problem in the first place is that your immune system is already weak, and that your cells are already damaged.

Even if tumors do go into remission, these treatments will have damaged other cells, which are more likely to turn cancerous. The immune system, unless it is supported by supplements and diet to help it recover, will be in worse shape then ever. While it may have taken decades for cancer to develop the first time around, the second time usually takes a year or two.

Another reason why doctors ignore sensible, safe and healthy treatments for cancer, and recommend costly and illogical treatments instead — is human nature. They advise and prescribe what they know. Just what we all do.

You go to them and you get what they have been taught. You assume they will do the best they can for you, while in fact they only do what the system teaches them, promotes, and allows them to do.

A Doctor’s Shocking Closed-Door Confession  …

In a survey of 79 oncologists from McGill University Cancer Center in Canada, 64 said they would not consent to treatment with Cisplatin, a common chemotherapy drug, while 58 oncologists said they would reject all the current trials being carried out by their establishment. This information is shocking to say the least.  But consider this …

Doctors today are not very different than they were 150 or 200 years ago. Back then the common practice was for interns and doctors working on cadavers to walk down the hall to deliver a baby without washing their hands. Many women died from the subsequent infections. Finally a doctor in charge of a clinic figured out what was happening, and had them wash their hands. The infections stopped. When he published his results, the medical profession was outraged. Good doctors could not be the cause of something like this. The doctor was ostracized and fired. He went elsewhere and repeated the experiment. Again, deaths dropped. Again he announced the results, and again the medical profession rose up against him. The end of the story was, he lost everything, went insane from the tragedy of it all, and eventually, so the story goes, killed himself.

Bottom line:  Don’t expect a doctor working inside the system to buck the system. The risks are too great.

According to the National Cancer Institute, about 500,000 people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer this year. You may not know it, but cancer — NOT heart disease — is the number one risk of death for most everyone.

Chemotherapy works by killing all cells — throughout your body — that multiply and divide rapidly. This would include cancer cells, and other rapidly multiplying and dividing cells, that we need, such as:

  • Bone marrow, which produces blood
  • Digestive system
  • Reproductive system
  • Hair follicles

This overkill approach is one of the causes of an astounding overall failure rate of chemotherapy, as you’ll see below.

In 2004, the Journal of Clinical Oncology published a study about chemotherapy’s success rates when looking at how many cancer patients were still alive after 5 years. It states:

RESULTS: The overall contribution of curative and adjuvant cytotoxic chemotherapy to 5-year survival in adults was estimated to be 2.3% in Australia and 2.1% in the USA.

CONCLUSION: As the 5-year relative survival rate for cancer in Australia is now over 60%, it is clear that cytotoxic chemotherapy only makes a minor contribution to cancer survival. To justify the continued funding and availability of drugs used in cytotoxic chemotherapy, a rigorous evaluation of the cost-effectiveness and impact on quality of life is urgently required.

You’d be hard pressed to find anything still being touted as your best shot at a cure with an average success rate of just over 2 percent, which chemotherapy has, if it wasn’t for the fact that big profits were driving the recommendation. For stage 4 cancers the rate is less than half of one percent.

Fundamentally, chemotherapy rarely works. Worse, some drug treatments also promote the spread of cancer. But somehow the rationale to avoid these agents because they might promote cancer does not apply when it comes to drugs.

– A Cancer Journal for the Clinician article concludes by stating:

“Pending the publication of suitable trials, clinicians must be guided by existing data in the context of a fundamental principle of medicine, “Primum non nocere.” (First do no harm.) “

And yet, conventional cancer treatments can in no way, shape or form ever be considered harmless.

“…as a chemist trained to interpret data, it is incomprehensible to me that physicians can ignore the clear evidence that chemotherapy does much, much more harm than good.”

It is not all gloom and doom with chemotherapy. For two decades Dr. Perez Garcia has been using a treatment he calls Insulin Potentiation Therapy (IPT). It consists of giving a patient a dose of insulin followed by a tiny dose of chemotherapy.

Cancer cells have 15 times more insulin receptors than normal cells. The insulin dose helps to target chemotherapy into cancer cells because they have so many more insulin receptors. So small doses of chemotherapy can be used that cause little harm to normal cells. With Stage 1 or 2 cancer, IPT is, I read, about 80% successful, mixed results for more serious cancers. So after two decades of use, how many doctors were using IPT in the USA? 29. Hard to believe isn’t it. By the way, in our energetic testing on the usefulness of IPT, we find that it is only around 150. Certainly much better than traditional chemotherapy which tests at around 30. But as some of the top cancer fighting products test as high as the millions, 150 is not that good. (The bigger the number the better it is.)

Many oncologists make much of their income from the markup they make on chemotherapy drugs, and small doses don’t make big money.

You don’t have to avoid chemotherapy or radiation therapy to receive benefits from natural products and supplements. In fact, nutritional supplements are quite useful when used in conjunction with chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. The best ones work to support the body so that radiation and chemo will actually work better. In addition, the immune system will be stronger, and better able to keep cancer from developing again.

It makes sense, doesn’t it, to supplement your chemotherapy or radiation treatments with other options that support your body and actually help it be much more effective in fighting cancer.

Many people only do chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and do not also support their body’s fight against cancer in other ways. All too often, the cancer is not destroyed, or comes back a short while later. And no wonder…

If the immune system has been wiped out by chemotherapy or radiation, cancer is bound to overrun the body even faster than before.

All normal body cells are thus obligate aerobes, whereas all cancer cells are partial anaerobes.”

Poor oxygenation comes from a buildup of carcinogens and other toxins within and around cells, which blocks and then damages the cellular oxygen respiration mechanism. There is a simple test to tell if you have candida overgrowth.

First thing in the morning, before you put ANYTHING in your mouth, get a clear glass of water. Better still; leave it by your bed the night before. Work up a bit of saliva, and then spit it into the glass of water.

Check the water every 15 minutes or so for up to one hour. If you have a candida yeast infection, strings (like legs) will travel down into the water from the saliva floating on top, or “cloudy” saliva will sink to the bottom of the glass, or cloudy specks will seem to be suspended in the water. If nothing develops in 30 to 45 minutes, you are probably candida free.

Types of toxins in your body

When we control inflammation, we can control what causes cells to over proliferate, causing cancer. Or when we manage inflammation so that we stay resistant to pathogens that cross our path; we can avoid the other causes of disease that inflammation causes, like Alzheimer’s, and poly-cystic diseases of the kidney or lungs and more.

First by learning what causes us to gain weight, we will find which foods cause inflammation. Second, by managing our stress, we will learn how our stress hormones cause greater food intake and inflammation

Why do I, as a woman, think this is important? Because it has helped so many of my friends feel better. I know it is hard to believe that it is not portion control and exercise that makes the difference. I know I cannot portion control when I am still hungry! By feeding my body and cells, what they need to power themselves, is what causes me to be ABLE to portion control. I don’t even crave sweets anymore. (Of course I did when I started at age 46… because I was still having those hormone cycles that caused me to be insatiable. As I aged.. I am 58 now, learning what to eat to feel full, and the slow change in hormones enabled me to manage my diet, so I didn’t crave all the stuff that I thought I couldn’t live without.

Now when I eat outside my “list” I still get too-o-o hungry and eat more. I am careful to eat as I have found what works to keep me satisfied. And More IMPORTANTLY, my colon moving without fits of starts and stops.

I know I am less inflamed, because I can keep my colon moving without digestive enzymes.

When you read the article about getting older is not about eating less, it is about enough nutrition. You will see, that my B Blood Type friends eat totally opposite of me, and yet we all manage to lose or maintain a weight, and have good blood chemistries. The Word STRESS is such a common part of our vernacular that it has lost it’s importance.

So many people are suffering from stress it has become synonymous with the 21st Century. You don’t seem to get much sympathy these days from colleagues, friends or family if you suggest you are suffering from stress.

So what is stress?

Stress is the biological reaction to a “Stressor”.  The biological changes that occur within the body are known collectively as the “general adaption syndrome”.  There are 3 phasses to this:

Raw Diet

The diet of raw food and juice can help us remain healthy. Juice-diet can cure us of chronic diseases and keep our mind and body healthy. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables can lower the risk of many diseases.

  • Try to eat more fruits and vegetables. If you need 2,000 calories a day to maintain your weight and health, aim for at least nine servings (4½ cups) a day.
  • Choose a variety of different fruits and vegetables. Break out your habits and try a wider variety – include dark-green, leafy vegetables; yellow, orange, and red fruits and vegetables; cooked tomatoes; and citrus fruits.

Apple

In 1946, a German naturopath Kunstmann was successful in curing a number of cancer-patientswith beet­juice. Thereafter, in 1950, Dr. Firenczi from Hungary successfully treated a patient ofmalignant tumour with beet-juice. It was noted that beet-juice had a beneficial effect on other ailments also. Many patients gained weight by consuming beet-juice.

Beet-juice is harmless and beneficial. As it is rejuvenating, it is effective in every type of weakness. It also purifies the blood and brings redness to the body.

BEL Fruit

Bel is a native of India. From time immemorial it has been regarded as a medicinal herb.

Bel is sweet, light, digestive, a kindler of gastric fire and slightly constipating. It destroys intestinal worms, stops nausea, vomitting and relieves cramps of stomach-muscles. In fact, the Ayurveda considers it a remedy for the three systemic disturbances viz. cough, wind and bile.

The pulp of the ripe bel may be taken directly or it may be taken in its juice-form. The medicinal value of bel is principally dependent upon the tannin it contains. In digestive disorders and chronic dysentery, bel is regarded as an invaluable remedy. As a remedy for bowel complaints, diarrhoea and chronic dysentery, the juice of bel fruit has no equal.

Bel fruit is nutritious and a blood-purifier. 50 mg. of the juice of bel fruit mixed with warm water and sugar, two-three times a day helps to eradicate blood-impurities.

Cabbage

Cabbage is delicious, vitalizing, pungent, bitter, cool, digestive and light. It kindles gastric fire and is good for the heart.  It is useful in cough, bile, leucoderma, coughingand impurities of the blood.

One of the reasons for which cabbage is esteemed is its ascorbic acid (vitamin C) content. Nearly one-third of the day’s allowance of vitamin C may be secured from only one cup of raw chopped cabbage.

Raw cabbage is used in a salad and is also used as a cooked vegetable. But its medicinal benefit can be acquired only when taken in juice-form. The outer green leaves of the cabbage are excellent source of vitamin A. The inner white leaves are devoid of it. Hence the outer leaves should not be thrown away. The percentage of iron is also higher in the outer green leaves.

Carrot

The carrot is sweet, warm, pleasant, stimulant of gastric fire, dry, appetiser, diuretic, constipating and to some extent bitter. It gives relief in fistula, worms and dysentery. It eradicates windiness and cough. If taken in excess, it increases bile.

Besides all these, it contains vitamin C and vitamin D, niacin. Pyrodoxine, folic acid, biotin, pantothenic acid in minute quantities, and the minerals potassium, sodium, magnesium, copper, etc. in small amounts.

The calcium in carrot is easily digestible hence the daily requirements of calcium may be met by intake of sufficient quantity of carrot only. Carrot contains six times more calcium than potato.

Carrot juice is a wholesome diet for growing children because it is a good source of carotene andcalcium. Carrot-juice contains carotene (pro-vitamin A) which is very beneficial to the eyes. The carotene in carrot is converted by the liver into vitamin A and is also stored therein.

Carrot-juice is easily extracted with the help of a juicer. Juice can also be extracted by shredding it minutely and pounding it. The middle yellow part of carrot (root) should be discarded. Carrot can be eaten also by chewing it well.

Carrots eaten by chewing cleanse and strengthen the teeth. Grated carrots mixed with a small amount of salt have beneficial effects on eczema. Carrots are an excellent food for maintaining health of the eyes. Carrots contain a hormone known as tocokinin. This is an insulin-like compound which has been proved useful in diabetes.

Carrot has insecticidal properties. It destroys harmful bacteria thriving in the intestine. One gets reilief from enteritis with the help of carrot-juice. It also heals intestinal ulcers.

Lemon

Lemon is a must in the kitchen. It is a universally favourite fruit.

The Ayurveda has regarded lemon as a valuable fruit and admired its properties. Lemon is sour, warm, promoter of gastric fire, light, good for vision, pungent and astringent. It checks the excessive flow of bile and cleanses the mouth. It dislodges phlegm (cough) and expels wind from the digestive tract. It helps in digestion and removes constipation. It prevents vomiting, throat trouble, acidity and rheumatism. It destroys intestinal worms.

Though lemon is acidic to the taste, it leaves off alkaline residues in the body. This is why it is useful in all symptoms of acidosis.

Lemon-juice is a powerful antibacterial. It has been proved by experiments that the bacteria of malaria, cholera, diphtheria, typhoid and other deadly diseases are destroyed in lemon-juice.

It also contains some vitamin A. Natural vitamin C is much more effective than the synthetic one. Vitamin C of lemon-juice is very effective because it is combined with bioflavonoids (vitamin P). In addition to vitamin C, lemon also contains niacin and thiamin in small amounts.

One should not take concentrated lemon-juice. It should be diluted with water before taking it. Pure lemon­juice contains acid which is injurious to the enamel of teeth.

The body is well cleansed if lemon-juice mixed with cold water and honey is taken on an empty stomach early in the morning. Warm water may be used occasionally to get relieved of constipation.

Lemon-juice prevents or restrains influenza, malaria and cold.

Lemon-juice gives good relief in fever. Lemon-juice mixed with water is useful in quenching the thirst of the patients suffering from diabetes. It gives immediate relief in abdominal disorders. Lemon acts as a sedative for the nerves and the heart and allays troublesome palpitation.

Lemon is especially appreciated for its vitamin C value. When Vasco da Gama made his voyage round the ‘Cape of Good Hope’ nearly two-thirds of his crew died of scurvy. But at present the recurrence of such a disaster is no longer possible owing to the widespread use of lemon. Innumerable boatmen moving in sea have saved their lives with the use of lemon.

Vitamin P in lemon strengthens the blood vessels and prevents internal haemorrhage. It is, therefore, extremely useful in high blood pressure, in which cerebro-vascular accidents commonly occur.

The most valuable ingredient of lemon, next to vitamin C, is citric acid, of which it contains 7.2 per cent. Lemon contains more potassium than apple or grapes, which is beneficial to the heart.

The vitamin C content of lemon helps considerably in calcium metabolism, maintaining the health of the teeth and the bones

Lemon has been used for many years in gout and rheumatism. Lemon-juice is a diuretic. It, therefore, gives relief in kidney and bladder disorders. It has been used in destroying intestinal worms. It prevents vomiting and helps to cure hepatitis and other innumerable diseases.

Mango

Mangoes are said to be the King of fruits. It is said so because of its beauty and its nutritional factors.

A mango generally contains proteins at about 1% , vitamins and that too majorly Vitamin A, Vitamin B and Vitamin C, fatty acids, carbohydrates and minerals. The flesh is a mango also contains about 15% sugar.

Mango as a fruit is used as a major sauce of nutrients in under developed countries. It is said by the health professionals that eating mangoes soothes the intestines as they are easy to digest and they also benefit the brain, and at times also used to stop bleeding and strengthen the heart.

Melons

Melon-juice is very beneficial in acute eczema.

Melon is cool and diuretic. It quenches thirst. It gives a welcome cooling and soothing effect during the days of scorching heat.

As it contains predigested sugar, it provides prompt nourishment.

Melon is mostly composed of water and it contains a little or no fibres. It can, therefore, be taken either directly or in its juice-form.

As melon has a cooling property, it soothes burning sensation in the stomach. Its mineral contents eliminate acidity from the body. It also has a property for curing constipation.

The pulp of the fruit (melon) is a powerful diuretic and relieves kidney diseases. It is also very beneficial in chronic and acute eczema.

As melon-juice promotes cough, one who suffers from asthma and cold should use it discreetly, or use it by making it slightly warm.

Onions

The onion has been cultivated since the dawn of human history.

Vigour, lustre of the body and mental power increase with the use of onions. From medical point of view, white onions are more useful. White onions are stimulant, vitalizing, pungent, promoters of virility, heavy, refreshing, stimulative of gastric fire and lubricous. They produce cough. They increase strength and induce sleep. They are a remedy for tuberculosis, cardiac troubles, dyspepsia, leprosy, piles, swelling and blood impurities.

The onion loses its vitamin C content when preserved for a long time.

The onion has effective germicidal properties. On account of its content of a volatile oil, the onion is very useful in respiratory disorders.

Onions are widely used in salads. But to get the maximum benefit of the onion, one should take two or three teaspoonfuls of onion-juice mixed with honey. White onions should be preferred for medicinal uses.

In virile disorders, one should take onion-juice with honey daily in the morning for two to three weeks. This will increase one’s virility. The onion saves one from sunstroke. If one suffers from sunstroke, the onion relieves it. Eating onion in the morning and at bed-time is beneficial in jaundice.

It is interesting to note that during the plague-epidemic in London, when the contagion spread everywhere, the owners of onion and garlic shops were the only persons who proved immune to the disease.It has been proved that onion-juice is a very effective vermifuge (substance which kills worms). Unlike many vermifuges, onion-juice is more harmless and free from side-effects.

The onion dislodges mucous and prevents its fresh formation. The onion is beneficial to the aged. The onion is also beneficial in intestinal disorders. The use of onions stimulates the process of peristalsis (contraction and expansion) of the intestines and removes intestinal putrefaction and flatulence. It is also useful in indigestion and biliousness.

The juice of the onion together with sugar is a capital remedy for bleeding piles.

Orange

The Ayurveda also has recognised the value of the orange. It works as an appetizer. It cleanses the blood, soothes bile and eliminates windiness. It is cool and refreshing. It cleanses the mouth. It is regimen even in fever. It destroys intestinal worms and allays abdominal pain. It strengthens the bones.

The orange is a rich source of vitamin C. The daily requirement of vitamin C is fulfilled by taking 125 to 150 ml of orange-juice. The vitamin C content of the orange is not easily destroyed because it is protected by the citric acid. Besides, vitamin C in the orange is blended with calcium, thereby increasing the qualities of each other. The white membrane, which surrounds the sections of the orange, is an excellent source of calcium.

As orange-juice contains less acid than lemon-juice, it is regarded as superior to the latter. Though the citric acid contained in the orange is somewhat acidic to the taste, it is an alkali-forming food. After being metabolised in the tissues it leaves an alkaline residue and. thus improves the vital resistance of the body.

The orange is usually taken by masticating it or . taken in its juice-form. When there is need for obtaining a large quantity of nutrients, orange-juice is preferred. Those who suffer from cold should add some warm water to orange juice before taking it.

To overcome constipation, it is sufficient to take one or two oranges before going to bed and again on rising in the early morning. Oranges are useful in asthma and other bronchial troubles.

During fever, orange-juice greatly helps in supplying necessary nutrition to the patient. It improves digestion and increases appetite. Orange-juice renders the intestinal tract uninhabitable for the hostile microbes and improves the intestinal health. It increases vitality.

Orange-juice gives relief to pregnant women who suffer from nausea vomiting.

A cup of orange-juice provides as many calories as three-quarters of milk-cup. In chronic dyspepsia, food is not well digested. It causes putrefaction in the digestive tract which produces gas. Orange-juice helps in eliminating this putrefaction of food in the stomach. It cleanses the tracts of the stomach and the ‘intestines and thus increases the digestive power of both the digestive organs.

Papaya

Heart disease: Papayas may be very helpful for the prevention of atherosclerosis and diabetic heart disease.

Papayas are an excellent source of vitamin C as well as a very good source of vitamin E and beta-carotene, three very powerful antioxidants.

These nutrients help prevent the oxidation of cholesterol. Only when cholesterol becomes oxidised is it able to stick to and build up in blood vessel walls, forming dangerous plaques that can eventually cause heart attacks or strokes.

High cholesterol: Papayas are also a very good source of fibre, which has been shown to lower high cholesterol levels.

The folic acid found in papayas is needed for the conversion of a substance called homocysteine into benign amino acids. If unconverted, homocysteine can directly damage blood vessel walls and is considered a significant risk factor for a heart attack or stroke.

Cancer: Papaya’s fibre is able to bind to cancer-causing toxins in the colon and keep them away from the healthy colon cells. In addition, papaya’s folate, vitamin C, beta-carotene, and vitamin E have each been associated with a reduced risk of colon cancer. These nutrients provide synergistic protection for colon cells from free radical damage to their DNA.

Increasing your intake of these nutrients by enjoying papaya is an especially good idea for individuals at risk of colon cancer.

Inflammation: The enzymes contained in papaya have been shown to help lower inflammation and to improve healing from burns.

Other benefits: The fibre found in papayas may also help with the symptoms of those suffering from irritable bowel syndrome.

In addition, vitamin C and vitamin A, which is made in the body from the beta-carotene in papaya, are both needed for the proper function of a healthy immune system. Papaya may therefore be a healthy fruit choice for preventing such illnesses as recurrent ear infections, colds and flu.

The Ayurveda experts have regarded papain as a remedy for abdominal disorders. It is a good medicine for dysentery, hyperacidity, dyspepsia and constipation.

Pimples are removed by rubbing the white pulp of raw papaya on the face. It brings lustre to the face and removes wrinkles.

Peaches

Peaches are low in calories, and are a good source of healthy carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are known to be a vital source of energy to the body. They are very important nutrients. Therefore, peaches contribute to a well-balanced diet. Peaches also contain phytonutrients, antioxidants, carotenoids and flavonoids.

  • Phytonutrients: These play an important role in the key to human health. Research has proven that phytonutrients may help to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, arthritis and eye ailments.
  • Antioxidants: Antioxidants help to prevent damage to cells caused by oxidation and free radicals. They are also believed to stimulate the immune system. These also have the ability to provide health benefits, which includes protection against cancer, various heart diseases, and diseases which are associated with aging.
  • Carotenoids: Carotenoids play a major role in eye health. Substances in them act as filters, and shield the eyes from sunlight. This helps to protect against age-related eye disorders such as cataracts.
  • Flavonoids: Flavonoids have been proven to protect against heart disease and cancer.

Pineapples

The Ayurveda has brought to light many of the properties of pineapple. The ripe pineapple is a diuretic. It destroys intestinal worms and soothes bile. It is delicious and digestive. It expels gas. It is beneficial to the heart and effective in abdominal disorders, jaundice and anaemia.

The pineapple contains an enzyme called “brosmelin” which resembles pepsin and therefore helps to digest food. It gives relief in digestive disorders.

The pineapple should not be taken on an empty stomach. The upper rind and the innermost flesh of the pineapple should be discarded. The remaining portion should be cut into pieces. Juice should be extracted from these pieces. Raw pineapple or excessively ripe pineapple should be avoided during pregnancy.

Spinach

Spinach is a powerhouse of health among leafy green vegetables. In fact, it ranks second behind kale in total health-promoting carotenoids and folate and third in total antioxidants behind garlic and kale.  However, like other leafy green vegetables, spinach loses its nutritional value the longer it stays refrigerated. To get the best nutritive value out of fresh spinach, it should be used as soon as possible after it is purchased.

The health benefits of spinach are many. It is loaded with a whole host of vitamins, including Vitamin B, folate, iron, as well as the photochemical lutein and zeaxanthin. Folate is associated with a reduction in blood levels of homocysteine, which is an amino acid that has been associated with cardiovascular disease. Zeaxanthin is linked with a lower risk of macular degeneration, a condition which can lead to blindness. Spinach has also been regarded a fighter of cancer.

Being rich in fiber, it has long been considered one of the healthiest foods in the world. Research has proven that spinach may reduce ischemic stroke-induced brain damage, which occurs when the arteries are blocked by a blood clot, impeding the oxygen supply to the brain. In addition to all this, it low in calories (only about 41 calories per cup), so it is also a dieter’s dream!

  • Is rich in vitamin C, and beta carotene
  • Contains antioxidants
  • Helps reduce insulin levels

Eczema

Known as atopic dermatitis and for parents it is the most painful disease to watch your children suffer from.  Most doctors want to medicate or put cortisone cream on the already inflammed skin.  Yes this may calm the skin in some cases, but in all case it pushes the disease further into the body and these children later develop asthma, a far worse disease as it is life threatening.

So what can be done?  As a mother who watched and cried along with my baby when I couldn’t give him the relief he was looking for over 4 months.  Luckily I have natural medicine training and four years a naturopathy studies and one year of acupuncture  told me one thing.  -Don’t listen to the doctors and NEVER put cortisol cream on his skin.  I tried herbs and  acupuncture with out much success.  – Yes I took my 6month old to acupuncture every week for a month and syringed  chinese herbs into his mouth even through the protests. He did get better slightly and we both got a couple of hours sleep. But you’ll never believe once I found the correct natural alternative his torso was clear of eczema in a week and he hasn’t suffered since.  He is now 10 years old.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

So what

Atopic dermatitis is due to a hypersensitivity reaction (similar to an allergy) in the skin, which leads to long-term swelling and redness (inflammation) of the skin. People with atopic dermititis may lack certain proteins in the skin, which leads to greater sensitivity.

Atopic dermatitis is most common in infants. It may start as early as age 2 to 6 months. Many people outgrow it by early adulthood.

People with atopic dermatitis often have asthma or seasonal allergies. There is often a family history of allergic conditions such as asthma, hay fever, or eczema. People with atopic dermatitis often test positive to allergy skin tests.

However, atopic dermatitis is not caused by allergies. The condition tends to get worse when the person is exposed to certain triggers.

The following can make atopic dermatitis symptoms worse:

  • Allergies to pollen, mold, dust mites, or animals
  • Cold and dry air in the winter
  • Colds or the flu
  • Contact with irritants and chemicals
  • Contact with rough materials, such as wool
  • Dry skin
  • Emotions and stress
  • Exposure to too much water, such as taking too many baths or showers and swimming too often
  • Feeling too hot or too cold, as well as sudden temperature changes
  • Fragrances or dyes added to skin lotions or soaps

Symptoms

Typical skin changes may include:

  • Blisters with oozing and crusting
  • Dry skin all over the body or areas of bumpy skin on the back of the arms and front of the thighs
  • Ear discharge or bleeding
  • Raw areas of the skin from scratching
  • Skin coloring changes — more or less color than the normal skin tone (See: Skin abnormally dark or light)
  • Skin redness or inflammation around the blisters
  • Thickened or leather-like areas, called lichenification, which can occur after long-term irritation and scratching

Both the type of rash and where the rash appears can depend on the age of the patient:

  • In children younger than age 2, skin lesions begin on the face, scalp, hands, and feet. They are often crusting, bubbling, or oozing rashes that itch.
  • In older children and adults, the rash is more commonly seen on the inside of the knees and elbows, as well as the neck, hands, and feet.
  • During a severe outbreak, rashes may occur anywhere on the body.

Itching, which is sometimes intense, almost always occurs. Itching may start even before the rash appears. Atopic dermatitis is often called the “itch that rashes” because the itching starts, and then the skin rash appears from the scratching.

Signs and tests

A physical exam will be done. A skin biopsy can be done to confirm the diagnosis or rule out other causes of dry, itchy skin.

Diagnosis is based on the:

  • Appearance of the skin
  • Personal and family history

Allergy skin testing may be helpful for people with:

  • Hard-to-treat atopic dermatitis
  • Other allergy symptoms
  • Skin rashes that form only on certain areas of the body after exposure to a specific chemical

Treatment

SKIN CARE AT HOME

Taking care of your skin at home may reduce the need for medications.

Avoid scratching the rash or skin:

  • Relieve the itch by using a moisturizer, topical steroid cream, or other prescribed cream and taking antihistamines to reduce severe itching.
  • Keep your child’s fingernails cut short. Consider light gloves if nighttime scratching is a problem.

Keep the skin moist (called lubricating or moisturizing the skin). Use ointments (such as petroleum jelly), creams, or lotions 2 – 3 times a day. Moisturizers should be free of alcohol, scents, dyes, fragrances, or other chemicals. A humidifier in the home will also help.

Avoid anything that makes your symptoms worse. This may include:

  • Foods such as eggs in a very young child (always discuss with your doctor first)
  • Irritants such as wool and lanolin
  • Strong soaps or detergents, as well as chemicals and solvents
  • Sudden changes in body temperature and stress, which may cause sweating and worsen the condition
  • Triggers that cause allergy symptoms

When washing or bathing:

  • Keep water contact as brief as possible and use gentle body washes and cleansers instead of regular soaps. Short, cooler baths are better then long, hot baths.
  • Do not scrub or dry the skin too hard or for too long.
  • After bathing, it is important to apply lubricating creams, lotions, or ointment on the skin while it is damp. This will help trap moisture in the skin.

MEDICATIONS

At this time, allergy shots are not used to treat atopic dermatitis, although there is evidence that they may benefit certain adults with atopic dermatitis.

Antihistamines taken by mouth may help with itching or if you have allergies. Often you can buy them without a prescription.

  • Some antihistamines can cause sleepiness, but they may help with scratching while sleeping.
  • Newer antihistamines cause little or no sleepiness. Some are available over the counter. These medications include fexofenadine (Allegra), loratadine (Claritin, Alavert), and cetirizine (Zyrtec).

Most causes of atopic dermatitis are treated with medications that are placed directly on the skin or scalp (called topical medicines):

  • At first, you will probably be prescribed a mild cortisone (or steroid) cream or ointment. If this doesn’t work, you may need a stronger steroid medicine. You may need different strengths of steroids for different areas of skin.
  • Medicines called topical immunomodulators (TIMs) may be prescribed for anyone over 2 years old. TIMs include tacrolimus (protopic) and pimecrolimus (Elidel). Ask your doctor about concerns over a possible cancer risk with the use of these medicines.
  • Creams or ointments that contain coal tar or anthralin may be used for thickened areas.
  • Barrier repair creams containing ceramides

Wet-wrap treatment with topical corticosteroids has been shown effective for atopic dermatitis, although it can have side effects such as infection.

Other treatments that may be used include:

  • Antibiotic creams or pills if the skin is infected
  • Drugs that suppress the immune system, such as cyclosporinemethotrexate, or mycophenolatemofetil
  • Phototherapy, a medical treatment in which your skin is carefully exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light

Expectations (prognosis)

Atopic dermatitis is a long-term condition, but you can control it with treatment, by avoiding irritants, and by keeping the skin well-moisturized.

In children, the condition often clears beginning at around age 5 – 6, but flare-ups will often occur. In adults, it is generally a long-term or returning condition.

Atopic dermatitis may be harder to control if it:

  • Began at an early age
  • Involves a large amount of the body
  • Occurs along with allergic rhinitis and asthma
  • Occurs in someone with a family history of eczema

Complications

  • Infections of the skin caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses
  • Permanent scars

Calling your health care provider

Call for an appointment with your health care provider if:

  • Atopic dermatitis does not respond to moisturizers or avoiding allergens
  • Symptoms get worse or treatment does not work
  • You have signs of infection (such as fever, redness, or pain)

Prevention

Studies have shown that children who are breast-fed until age 4 months are less likely to get atopic dermatitis.

If the child is not breast-fed, using a formula that contains processed cow milk protein (called partially hydrolyzed formula) may decrease the chances of developing atopic dermatitis.
